Femme Power Picks - January 15th
Scroll through our recommendations for January 15th's releases, listed below!
We'd be lying if we didn't say this was a...tiny week for new releases. There are a bunch of returning favorites we're excited to pick up, but for new series and graphic novels, its a pretty short list. In fact, two of the "new" things we're excited for aren't actually new at all! The first is Jessica Jones: Blind Spot, which was originally available online directly through Marvel. We have mixed feelings about these types of comics (these types of online services hurt small comic book businesses but can also make comics more accessible to many folks), but we picked it up when it was printed in trade form and available at our local comic shop. We're excited to revisit this story with one of our all-time favorite characters written by one of our all-time favorite writers, now in periodical comic format! The second title is the graphic novel Plain Janes, which collects stories dating back as far as 2007 but pulls them all together (and adds new tales) for the first time! Continuing the theme of new-but-not-so-new titles to snag this week, there are also a few cool reprinting and facsimile editions to pick up! We happen to be big fans of facsimiles (pronounced fak-sim-a-lees), because they reprint a comic with all of the original advertisements, as though you were finding a silver or golden aged gem on the shelf!
There are two original young adult graphic novels that we HIGHLY recommend you read this week! The first is Deep & Dark Blue by Nikki Smith. A beautiful fantasy story set after a political coup, young nobles Hawke and Grayson narrowly escape and take cover among a communion of magical women, forcing them to take new identities as Hanna and Grayce. While both want to avenge their family, Hawke is desperate to return to his old life while Grayce realizes she would rather stay in a place that would allow her to be her truest self. This is an enchanting story of family, honor, and identity that readers young and old will relate to. The second is one you may have heard lots of buzz about as it was on many "must read" lists for 2020- Green Lantern: Legacy! When thirteen-year-old Tai inherits his grandmother's jade ring, he discovers its more than meets the eye as he's inducted into a group of space officers known as the Green Lanterns. Back at home, Tai finds his neighborhood overrun by racist bullies, and must decide both who he can trust and what type of hero he wants to be. We admittedly read both of these books and thoroughly enjoyed them (maybe tears were shed...)!
Some of the returning favorites this week include; Ghosted in L.A., Jim Henson's Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Life is Strange, Low Low Woods, Red Mother, Runaways and so many other Femme Power Comix favorites!
Each title, listed below in alphabetical order, includes cover art and a brief description. To learn more about each title, click on the cover art image and head over to Previews World!
If you've been keeping an eye on our shop, you may have noticed that our comics and graphic novels have been removed, but never fear, this is only temporary! We are preparing for a big move, and in the meantime our store will be down for about two months. We will slowly be adding inventory as we get things situated, so bear with us! As we decide what we should stock in the shop, we would love your feedback, so always feel free to send us an email or leave us a message on Facebook or Instagram!
Are there other titles you're picking up this week? What are we missing from our list? Let us know in the comments section!

But for Main Jane, the group is more than just a simple act of teenaged rebellion, it's an act of survival.
